Five for Five with Scott Mellinger of ZAO

Five for Five with Scott Mellinger of ZAO

I didn't get it at first as it was way fucking heavier than anything my precious teenage ears had been subjected to, but i persisted and finally "got" it. I mean, who does hand claps in the verse of a super heavy song? ZAO. Who still has the heaviest guitar tone i've ever heard? Zao. Who still make flawless albums? ZAO. I am super stoked that Scott Mellinger took part in this. ZAO opened up a whole new musical world for me that I never knew existed. Holyshit.

Five for Five with Chelsie Bomb of Friends With The Enemy

Five for Five with Chelsie Bomb of Friends With The Enemy

Chelsie & I go way back. Long story short, I met her on a punk forum (remember them?) back in Australia, searching for people to start a band with. She mentioned her brother, Ben had just moved back to Sydney and i should contact him, which i did (or he contacted me - i forget). Being the small world that it is, we recognised each other after not seeing one another for, i guess, 15 years. Anyway, we both wore Dickies that were 13 sizes too big, whatever Drive-Thru (remember them too?) band we were vibing on at the time, probably The Starting Line and definitely The Movielife and we started my first band (hi Ben, hi Alex!). Cut to our first tour and Chelsie's first band band played a bunch of shows with us. Both bands broke up, i started a Dillinger Escape Plan worshipping tech metal band and she currently kicks a bunch of ass with her band "Friends With The Enemy"

Five for Five with Mario Braun of Roadrage Booking

Five for Five with Mario Braun of Roadrage Booking

Mario was one of the first friends i made independently since arriving in Zurich. I was having coffee with Ian of Uberyou outside of Dynamo (easily the best punk/hardcore venue i've ever seen - played in or otherwise) when a quick exchange of Swiss-German ended up with Mario joining us, ending with hanging out at Ian's, then Mario's places geeking out over records and talking about tattoo's. Legitimately solid dudes i'm happy to have befriended. Mario books hardcore & metal  bands through his company "Roadrage Booking"

Five for Five with Laura Imbruglia

Five for Five with Laura Imbruglia

I first met Laura many years ago (lost count to be honest) but i distinctly remember our first interaction. I went to the record store she worked  and asked her if she had particular albums from Poison & Motley Crue. She looked at me with what can only be described as ridicule meets disdain meets sorrow for me. (it's not like i asked for the debut Kip Winger solo album, Air Supply or Meat Loaf, but whatever). Either way, they didn't have the albums i was after because they are obviously both great bands that are still popular to this day, but Laura and i managed to keep in touch...

Five for Five with Chris Dalley of Authority Zero

Five for Five with Chris Dalley of Authority Zero

You all don't now how stoked i am to be having Chris Dalley of Authority Zero taking part in in this series.

Not only is he one of THE best drummers in punk rock, he's also played in several of my favourite skate-punk bands growing up including, but not limited to Pulley, Ten Foot Pole, Voodoo Glowskulls, Death By Stereo, Authority Zero & Implants.

Five for Five with Kim Coletta of Jawbox

Five for Five with Kim Coletta of Jawbox

Jawbox are undeniably one of my favourite  (and in my opinion most underrated) bands from the 90's. Starting out in the hardcore/post-punk scene in Washington D.C in the late 80's they are the perfect mix of aggression, emotion and melody, and their song-writing was, to me, next level. Recently re-united, Kim, who happens to be one of the most genuinely nicest people i have met, has graciously agreed to answer some questions. If you don't know them, check them out.
